This 20+ years aged briar has an interesting combination of straight and scalloped birdseye, due to the leftward slant of the grain, originating from the heart of the birdsey at the bottom right-side of the bowl. As is the norm for wood of this age, the density and hardness of the burl prevents a really "craggy" blast; however, the blast is minutely detailed, revealing all the tiny fibers of the wood, which terminates with an attached brindle ring at the end of the shank. The saddle of the mouthpiece is boxwood, and the stem is German Brindle. By the bottom of the first smoke this will already seem like an old friend.
